Hurricanes are very dangerous and those of us who have lived through one of these fierce storms are aware of their destruction. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with hurricanes most commonly making U.S. landfall in September, followed by August and October.Know the different between a watch and a warning. A watch lets you know the weather conditions are favorable for a hazard to occur, so be on guard. A warning requires immediate action. A weather hazard is imminent – it is either occurring (a tornado has been spotted, for example) or it is about to occur any moment. Both watches and warnings are important, but warnings are more urgent.
What is covered?
Most standard storm insurance policies cover storm damage – except from flooding. For protection against rising water, you will need flood insurance. Most policies are provided by the federal National Flood Insurance program. In some coastal regions, home insurance excludes damage from wind and hail, so a separate windstorm policy may be vital. This is a good time to review your Lighthouse Property Insurance Corporation homeowner’s insurance policy and know what is covered.
Contact your local agent for assistance, if you do not have a Lighthouse Property Insurance Corporation policy, go to the agent locator on our website to find an agent near you.
